Who’s Behind Cook This Today?

Lisa & Michael — the hearts behind the kitchen.

About me

Hi, I’m Lisa, the woman behind Cook This Today. I’m 48, a wife to Michael, mom to Jackson (15) and Lily (10), and someone who used to live on coffee and calendar alerts. At home, our days are often brightened by Max — our loyal dog and the unofficial taste tester in the kitchen.
For years, I was constantly running — between meetings, deadlines, after-school pickups, and the usual “what’s for dinner?” panic at 6 PM.

Cooking? I loved it… but I had no time for it.

Until one day, I paused. I looked at my daughter’s tired little face, my teenage son reheating yet another frozen pizza, and my husband doing his best to help — and I realized something: I didn’t want just food on the table. I wanted comfort. Connection. Calm.

Why We Started Cook This Today

Cook This Today was born out of our need for something simple but soothing.
Not perfect meals. Not Pinterest moments.
Just real food for real days — meals you can make even when life feels like a lot.
Together, Michael and I wanted to bring back the joy of cooking — without the stress.
He’s the practical mind who loves one-pan dinners and grilled comfort classics, while I bring the storytelling, the cozy recipes, and the family touch.

Real Comfort Food for Real Life

Whether it’s a lazy Sunday stew or a grilled cheese after a long day, we believe every meal can be a moment of calm and connection.
On Cook This Today, you’ll find the recipes we actually make for our family — easy, soulful, and full of warmth.

A Taste of Our Kitchen

From cozy soups to sweet bakes, everything here is made with pantry staples and love — because food doesn’t need to be complicated to feel special.

Jameson Orange cocktail served with zest and cream swirl
tacos with hello fresh southwest spice blend
detox drink with pink salt, apple cider vinegar and baking soda
Miso-glazed salmon cups with phyllo and sesame on a wooden tray
Dijon-glazed salmon with orzo and green beans on a ceramic plate

From Our Home to Yours

If you’re a mom, a woman, or just a human looking for food that warms without overwhelming — you’re in the right place.
This isn’t a blog about being perfect. It’s about being present.
Every recipe here was tested in our imperfect, noisy, love-filled kitchen — the one where Michael experiments with sauces, Jackson handles the playlist, and Lily insists on dessert first.
